You can sign up for Priority Hours here. Priority Hours are 1-hr time slots when you will receive priority access to new students. During your Priority Hour, we will actively feature your tutor profile and send you calls from new students. Additionally, you'll be guaranteed to be paid for a minimum of 15 minutes of chat time per hour regardless if students call. During a Priority Hour, you are required to be online and answer all calls that come your way during that Hour.
How the PH System works
If you are a new tutor, Priority Hours are very important because it is the primary way you'll meet new students. We recommend that new tutors tutor exclusively on PH for their first two weeks on Cambly. During PH, not only will we direct you calls from new students, we also guarantee you a minimum payment of 15 minutes of paid chat minutes, even if you don’t connect with students.
During a Priority Hour, you are required to be online for the full hour and answer all calls that come your way during that Hour. It’s a good idea to log on a few minutes early to give yourself some cushion room in case you experience any technical difficulties. If you are more than a few minutes late for your Priority Hour, you will be dropped from the PH automatically, which will hurt your ability to sign up for more Priority Hours.
Priority Hours must be cancelled over 12 hours in advance. This gives other tutors enough time to pick up the Priority Hour. If your Priority Hour is within 12 hours but you no longer can make it, it is better to drop your Priority Hour late than to miss that Hour. Dropping a Priority Hour late will hurt your Priority Hour access, but missing your Priority Hour will hurt your access significantly more.
You can sign up for as many Priority Hours as you want, up to 14 hours of Priority Hours within any 24 hours period. Priority Hours can be scheduled in 1-hr intervals. Be careful to only sign up for Priority Hours at times you will be available to speak. During each PH, you will have the option to take a 5 minute break. However it is still a good idea to schedule breaks, so that you can rest for an hour or eat a meal uninterrupted. After your Priority Hour, you can check on your History tab to see how many students you’ve chatted with and how many minutes you chatted during that Priority Hour (this does not count minutes chatted before or after the beginning of the Priority Hour, but you will still be paid for those minutes as usual!).
Dynamic Priority Hour Access
The higher your tutor rating, the more Priority Hours will be available to you. All new tutors start out on Cambly being able to schedule PH one week in advance. However as you take more calls and impress more students, your ability to schedule more PH automatically increases. On the other hand, if you miss Priority Hours, drop Priority Hours within 12 hours of the Hour, or miss calls during a Priority Hour, your PH access may be restricted. You can see every PH available to you by clicking the "list" view on your Priority Hours tab. If you don't see too many PHs available to you, check out this article for more information about what might be causing that.
